Timber Frame Guest Cabin

John Stickel

LT40

Project Description
Post and Beam guest cabin. I love the barns from the 1800’s, and wanted to build “the old way” using modern technology. All the timbers are true mortise and tenon oak timbers held with only 1” pegs. The tenons were traced on the end grain, and sawn with the Woodmizer and a stop block. Mortise pockets with a router and straight bit. Siding is live edge maple. Inside walls are maple shiplap. Rafters are 3”x 10-14” with the live edge down. Fun project with the idea of expanding camp!

Finished Dimensions
199.5 ground floor (200 requires a building permit), and additional loft.

Money Saved
Cabin appraised at $28k
